DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal
Conflict in the Middle East is devastating lives.
Violence has displaced nearly two million people, decimated livelihoods, crippled food systems, destroyed crop fields, severely restricted humanitarian operations and resulted in the collapse of health services and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) systems.
In Gaza, people are dying of hunger and disease, as well as injuries caused by the conflict. Food and clean water are desperately scarce with more than 60,000 children estimated to require treatment for acute malnutrition.
The hostilities in Gaza are reported to have caused 52,908 deaths, injured 119,721 people and displaced about two million people (almost the entire population of Gaza).
In Lebanon, more than a million people fled their homes after violence escalated in September. With a ceasefire already in place there, they can start to try and rebuild their communities, lives and livelihoods. Many have lost everything.
It is critical that, together with other DEC member charities, we scale up our emergency response to support those in urgent need of help.
Concern is working with our international NGO partner, CESVI to deliver life-saving aid in Gaza. Through CESVI we have improved access to drinking water through water-trucking, distributing water tanks, jerrycans and buckets, and provided decent sanitation facilities, basic hygiene items, and awareness raising on key-messages on hygienic practices in emergency. We have also provided Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food to children and Pregnant and Lactating Women suffering of Moderate and Severe Acute Malnutrition (MAM – SAM).
